The Dharma of Nothing – Chapter One

Prologue

Have you ever wondered,

What’s the point of living?

Do you believe in God,

Or do you believe that God,

Is of our own making.

Are you among those, who hope,

That science will deliver,

In due course of time.

Or are you, one of the few,

Who think that some questions,

 Are beyond science,

But the answers might save your life.

If you have any of these questions,

And out of thousands of possibile channels.

The Matrix has sent you to me,

Then perhaps, my friend, this is meant to be.

And I welcome you on this journey.

Part 1: Happiness is our Motivation

Let us consider the average man,

Who lives in an average home,

Has an average job, and an average family.

How painful it would be for this poor family,

If he was sleeping in, throwing lavish parties,

And gambling away all their money?

And Even if this man were happy now,

We can make an educated guess,

That he will regret it eventually,

He will soon be a complete mess.

To conclude, for everyone to be happy,

We must be aligned with family and community.

Consider what this alignment looks like,

When we are all moving in space and time.

Each of us has a goal, a method,

A will to survive, a desire to thrive.

Now expand your view, beyond this earthly life,

And consider the sea of existence,

And you may already see,

That, to be at peace in this universe,

Is to be in tune with its purpose.

And then, if you come to realize,

 The purpose of existence,

The purpose of all things, including all of us,

Becomes obvious!

Now you might have the question,

And my children certainly did.

To be happy, why do we have to be in tune,

With the purpose of the universe?

Well, to begin…

I hope you will agree,

 That, to be happy,

Your actions should serve your purpose.

But what is that purpose,

We must answer this without bias.

You can watch our other video,

It is called “What is Dharma.”

It talks about how to break down,

The purpose of any phenomena.

So to know our purpose,

We could go down a rabbit hole.

We could break life down and analyze it,

Down to the last quantum particle.

But why do all that?

The universe is made of the same stuff,

So we might as well just ask,

On the whole, about its purpose.

Part 2: The Universe and The Nothing

To ask about the purpose of the Universe,

 Is to ask why.

Why does it exist?

Why has it come into being?

And to ask that question,

 Is the same as asking,

Why is there something rather than Nothing?

Now, the question arises,

What’s the connection?

If we knew how something,

Came from nothing,

How does it help us,

Understand the universe?

 To understand the cosmos,

We must ask why it exists.

And one method is to search,

For a cause that can explain it.

If we look at it in a scientific way,

We encounter an infinite regression.

In science, every event has a cause,

And every cause must have an explanation.

If you are looking for a final answer

You will never get it with this method,

Because it always leaves some room,

For some unexplained initial condition.

This problem is known in some circles,

 As the tower of turtles.

Each turtle supports the one above,

It’s turtles all the way down.

Ad infinitum. There is no solution.

This is also where we go wrong with Religion.

If we did not start with Nothing,

We would start with something, such as God.

And then we would have to ask,

About the source of that God, its cause…

Or we would settle for some God,

And imagine it in any way we want,

Mixed up with all our faults.

With this way of thinking, I was afraid,

I would be stuck with Science or Religion.

With Theories and dogma, but nothing final.

So, my friends,

I found a different path,

I found the bottom of the tower,

I found a turtle like no other,

I found a self supporting structure.

I call it, for convenience, The Nothing.

When I contemplated this Nothing.

I found the source of everything.

Everything, Including the Universe.

And beyond that, a new world.

And this I share with you freely,

It is a long journey. Bear with me.

Part 3: What is Nothing?

This question has been asked many times,

They say that Nothing cannot be defined.

That it is a paradox, or a secret for us to find.

To illustrate the paradox, consider a magic box.

Any box will contain something,

Can we turn something into Nothing?

What if we remove all matter,

All particles, all energies,

All ideas, all gods,

And even all possibilities?

So we now have a box of Nothing,

You would think.

But we now encounter a problem,

In this thought experiment.

If we have Nothing in a box,

Then it still exists. “It” is still Something!

This is just a flavor,

And as we will see later,

 Simple reasoning about Nothing,

 Does not yield an answer.

In the next chapter,

We’ll crack this monster.
